This week’s gospel reading documents the baptism of Jesus. Jesus was baptized as a model of what He wants all of us, His children, to do (be baptized). He had no sin so he did not need to be baptized for forgiveness of sins.
At first his cousin, John the Baptist, didn’t even feel right baptizing Him. He said, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?”Jesus replied to him, “Allow it now, for this is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Jesus was baptized to fulfill his purpose which was to be a perfect model (& sacrifice) for us, his children.
As a Social-Behavioral Scientist, I know the overwhelming scientific evidence that what parents do/model (righteousness/unrighteousness) is what children grow up to do (at least 80% of the time!). In another gospel reading (John 5:19), Jesus says, “……the son can do nothing on his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing.”
Now with movies, TV, the internet, you-tube shorts, children are doing more of what they see modeled to them outside of our homes and need Jesus’ perfect-righteous modeling now, more than ever!

So thankful for the revival happening among GenZ but specifically praying our children grow in their relationship with Jesus (as a model- perfect father) through prayer, reading & studying the Bible, nature (creation science), church, worship music 🎶 and working for His purpose(s).🙏
